Newman’s men and women’s golf teams just wrapped up their seasons this week at the Heartland Conference tournament in Horseshoe Bay, Texas.
The women’s team landed a sixth place finish overall at the end of tournament play and the men’s team finished in ninth.
Sophomore Imkeelen Meyer finished the first day of play in a tie for second place with Dallas Baptist’s Addison Mitchell. The Lady Jets finished the first day of the tournament with a score of 25-over 313.
On the second day, Meyer tied for the lead with the second-lowest round of the day. Sophomore Ximena Name cut six strokes off her first days score and tied with senior teammate Alex Patton for 24th place out of 50.
At the end of the second day, the women’s team cut seven strokes off its score, landing them a score of 18-over 306.
On the last day of the tournament, Patton tied for 16th in the individual rankings. Meyer finished in a tie for fifth place. The Lady Jets solidified their sixth place finish on day three with a score of 25-over 313.
On the first day of the conference for the men’s team, sophomore Lee Maddox shot a 1-under 71. The team as a whole shot 20-over 308 and landed themselves in eighth place at the end of day one. Maddox finished the day in a tie for third place.
During the second round of play, Maddox hit and even par of 72, and ended the day in third place overall. The men’s team again shot 20-over 308, but ended the day in ninth place.
In the last round of the tournament, Maddox finished in eighth place overall with a score of 2-over 308. Junior Caleb Haight shot his best round of the tournament with an even par 72 and tied for 23rd in the individual rankings.
The men’s squad will lose one senior from this season, Logan Woodbridge, and the women’s team will be down two seniors – Emily Aird and Alex Patton.
