Popular Newman Professor Dies at 36

Newman’s Assistant Professor of Communication Suzanne Berg has died, her coworkers confirmed this morning.

Berg, 36, had been teaching at Newman since 2013.

According to student emails, Berg had been off-campus with an illness since Friday, Jan. 31.

Berg was active in multiple student groups on campus, including the Black Student Union and Kaleidoscope.

She is survived by her husband, Bill, and their two young children.

There will be a prayer service at noon on Wednesday in St. John’s Chapel. A mass will be offered in honor of Dr. Berg at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday also in St. John’s Chapel.
