The Kansas State Fair is once again offering a College Photography Internship to students throughout the state of Kansas. The internship opportunity runs from Friday, Sept. 7 – Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012. Students are only required to make a three-hour commitment. After the student’s shift, he/she would be free to cover the Kansas State Fair for their college publication or simply enjoy the rest of the day at the fair.
This is the 6th year that the Kansas State Fair has offered the Collegiate Photography Internship and the 5thyear for the People’s Choice Award. NEW THIS YEAR: In addition to the People’s Choice Award (A Kansas State Fair Rosette and $50), two new opportunities for recognition are being offered.
Agriculture Photo: Participants submit one photo depicting an agriculture scene from the fair. (Examples: child with an animal, horticulture exhibit, operation of antique farm machinery, FFA or 4-H exhibit…) The KSF Photo Intern whose Agriculture Photo is selected will have it submitted to the International Association of Fairs and Expositions and will receive a Kansas State Fair ribbon and $25.
Agriculture Photo Series: Participants submit a minimum of three (3) photos and a maximum of five (5) photos depicting a series of agriculture scenes at the fair. These photos should be a sequence of photos which tell a story. (Example: photo 1- grooming an animal to show, photo 2 – showing of the animal, photo 3 – exhibitor with animal and prize). The KSF Photo Intern whose Agriculture Photo Series is selected will have it submitted to the International Association of Fairs and Expositions and will receive a Kansas State Fair ribbon and $25.
If a student’s Agriculture Photo or Agriculture Photo Series is recognized by the International Association of Fairs and Expositions, he/she will be notified by the Kansas State Fair. This will not occur until late November 2012. All photos become the property of the Kansas State Fair, but students may keep copies for use in their portfolios.
