For many students at Newman University, the unlikely combination of breakfast and bingo seems to be a winner. In the dead of winter, when even the campus kittens have taken shelter, students can be found lined up for hours before Breakfast and Bingo. Organized by the Campus Activities Board, the event is one of the most well-attended.
“CAB does a really great job with this event every year, and I am excited to attend and hopefully win,” junior Alli Zingo said.
Breakfast and Bingo takes place at 10 p.m. on Sunday in the Mabee Dining Center. Staff and faculty members serve numerous breakfast items to students. After the snacking is done, the bingo begins.
This year the Sloppy Joe Improv troupe will perform skits in the dining center at 8:30 p.m., prior to Breakfast and Bingo. Students who go to the show will be given priority in the line.
Junior Megan Hostick, CAB president, said she believes this will be the best year yet for the event.
“SGA has generously donated extra funds for big game prizes, and there will also be more door prizes in between games,” Hostick said.
Prizes this year include an iPod touch with an iDock, a TV, two tickets to Country Stampede, an Xbox 360 and a Visa gift card. This event has been highly attended for many years, and students have said they enjoy the opportunity to get together and relax before finals week.
CAB had a rocky year with numerous leadership changes, but it is planning to finish the year strong, Director of Student Activities Lauren Susong said. She said she is looking forward to the event.
“I am excited to experience this traditional event for the first time,” Susong said. “We are going to have some wonderful prizes and I know the students will enjoy themselves.”
