Rosemary Niedens, associate vice president of academic services and student development, will be hosting Newman University’s first Service Fair from 2:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Gorges Conference Center in Dugan Library.
“The goal of the fair is to facilitate connections between the community and Newman students,” Niedens said.
At the service fair, between 12 and 15 local organizations will be on hand to promote both short and long term volunteer opportunities for students.
Last year, Newman students completed over 240,000 hours of service locally, regionally, nationally and internationally.
The university was recently recognized on the President’s Honor Roll for Community Service.
Niedens said the university is contacted frequently by organizations looking for student volunteers.
“We only pass along opportunities that are consistent with the mission and are non-profit organizations,” Niedens said. “Many students have service requirements for their classes and scholarships so a Service Fair seemed like a great idea.”
