Women’s volleyball team looks for improvement

With the 2011/2012 ending record of 5-22, the women’s volleyball team is back and looking to improve. Tessa Jones, head coach, says she is very excited for the season.

“We came together at the beginning of the season and came up with goals for ourselves throughout this season,” Jones said. “Some of these were to grow as a team, make the conference tournament, work hard every day and become a family not just a team.”

Returning players such as senior Katelyn Schmidtberger, and junior Gabby Loxterman are key players on the team.
“We are looking to our lone senior Katelyn and setter Gabby for leadership both on and off the court,” Jones said.

Junior Haley Dotson will be returning for her second season and is expected to receive all conference honors again.

Jones believes that new players Hannah Melichar, Belinda Rohling, Tori Alderson and Dana Shannon are all players to watch out for.

Even though the team has had problems due to injuries, Jones still maintains an optimistic view.

“This team is determined and focused and ready to make this a very successful year,” Jones said.

The volleyball team had its home opener on Sept. 6 where it lost against Texas-Permian Basin 2-3. It lost in its second game on Sept. 8 against McMurry 0-3.
