Student shares her top picks for local student entertainment
By Tamiko Mckinney, guest writer
Having fun in college seems to be the main objective on any given campus. But as students, we have some issues when it comes to fun.
One of these issues is finding the time to relax and let loose. Another is wondering if it’s really worth it. No student wants get up out of bed if they really do not have to. But to a student, the main – and probably most important – issue about entertainment is the financial state.
Fortunately, though, Wichita offers many ways for a student to have fun while both finding time and enjoying themselves, all for little to no cost at all.
My top three picks:
1. Exploration Place: Though it is a bit more expensive than I would like, with admission being $9.50 per person, Exploration Place is definitely worth the price. Located on West Douglas Avenue, it has a beautiful environment and hands-on equipment that you can enjoy. It focuses on flight and navigation.
2. Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum: Even though I am not a history buff by any stretch of the imagination, I found this place extremely entertaining. But my advice is to call and find out when they have special events. For example, they have an event called Paranormal Activity Revealed in Old City Hall on Oct. 8 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Admission for this event will be $5. The museum is located at 204 South Main.
3. Great Plains Nature Center: For the nature and animal lovers, like myself, the Great Plains Nature Center is definitely worth visiting. Located at 6232 E. 29th Street North, it provides a visual presentation of the nature that resides in North America.
Well, these are my top three picks for easy, fun, and cheap entertainment. Next time I will focus more on the night life and what Wichita has to offer.
