Campus Activities Board will sponsor Newman University’s first ever Winter Formal to celebrate the end of the fall semester and beginning of the Christmas season.
The dance will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. Dec. 1 in Jabara Theater.
The event will feature free food, a photo booth, raffle prizes and a live DJ. Students will have the opportunity to make their own ornaments to hang on a Christmas tree at the dance.
Lauren Susong, student activities coordinator, said she hopes for a high turnout at the event.
“Winter Formal will be a chance for students to dress up, have fun, kick back and celebrate the end of the semester and Christmas Break,” Susong said.
In past years, the Boo Bash was the only dance held during the fall semester.
Susong said CAB decided to put on the Winter Formal instead this year, so the Boo Bash turned into more of a costume party and social.
In the spring, CAB will host its other annual dance, Homecoming, which will have a jungle theme.
Freshman Keri Windle said she is looking forward to attending her first formal event at Newman.
“I’m hoping there will be a lot of fun music to dance to and that everything will be decorated beautifully,” Windle said. “I’m definitely looking forward to an evening of dressing up and having fun with my friends and my date.”
A Facebook event was created for the event if students need more information about the dance. The event can be found on Newman’s Facebook page.
Susong requests that students RSVP on the Facebook event so CAB will be able to judge better how much food to order and how many to expect.
CAB is sticking with a blue and white theme to complement the upcoming winter season, Susong said. Students are asked to wear formal or semi-formal attire.
