The Newman University Music Department will present its Christmas concert, “Home for the Holidays,” at 3 p.m. Sunday in the DeMattias Performance Hall.

This year, the choir will be joined by Independent High School’s Chamber Choir, directed by Matt Hanne, applied vocal instructor at Newman.

Deanne Zogleman, director of music, said her group of students began preparing for this concert as soon as the fall concert ended.

“They have continued to have a great work ethic from the fall concert, so I know this Christmas concert will be a success,” Zogleman said.

While she said she did not want to reveal exact details about what songs will be performed, audiences can expect a mix of traditional Christmas carols and new arrangements.

Students in the Chorale say they have been practicing extensively for the concert.

This will be junior Bree Pashman’s third Christmas concert with the Chorale.

“I practice whenever I have free time,” Pashman said. “I even practice in the car.”

Sophomore Miguel Torres said all the work he puts in pays off when it comes to concert time.

“I like feeding off of the audience’s energy while performing,” Torres said.

Admission is free for all Newman students. For all other visitors, it is $5. The box office will open at 2:15 p.m. and doors open at approximately 2:30 p.m.
