Kassidy Miller is a junior on the women's bowling team who recently finished seventh at the Intercollegiate Team Championship national tournament in Las Vegas.
And she did it with a torn ACL.
Miller, who comes from a bowling family, started her journey with the sport at the age of 3.
“Bowling is kind of a family thing, so once I got old enough, it was my turn to start,” Miller said.
In the third week of February, Miller tore her ACL. She wasn’t bowling when she did it, she said.
Still, she just kept competing.
“Experiencing nationals was something I will never forget,” Miller said. “We had worked so hard and overcame a rough season to get to that point, so once we got there, it was just about showing what we could do and just fully tuned into the moment.”
Originally, Miller was not sure if her ACL was torn, but during competition, she said, she felt more unstable.
“The main thing that it affected was my timing of my steps,” Miller said.
Miller recently had surgery to repair the ACL and will be in recovery for at least six to nine months. She’s uncertain whether she will be able to return for the fall season, but her goal for her senior season is to have a healthy recovery, she said.
“I am confident that with the group of girls we have and the ones coming in it is going to be a great season, no matter how many tournaments I get to be a cheerleader for, and we will be making an appearance again on the national level and hopefully on the NCAA side as well, “ Miller said.
