If you’ve been at Newman any significant length of time, you know the routine by now: A new year brings a new class of freshmen and transfers and a new group of faculty and staff.
As always, things have changed since last year, and the usual turnover can make things difficult for everyone. But just because change is hard doesn’t mean that it’s bad.
I don’t know about you, but yeah, week one did hit me like a solid brick wall, and the punches are going to keep on coming. What else is new? By now, I’m sure you’re all accustomed to all of that strife making you better at what you do and more confident in your abilities, and this year will be no different.
As always, to those who are new and those who are returning, I want to emphasize our forever-extended offer to contribute to The Vantage. Not only are we living in times when freedom of expression is incredibly important, but all the change happening around Newman also makes it crucial that student voices be elevated and heard. This publication is a great way to achieve that.
I don’t expect you to write for us every week (although we’d love to have you). I don’t even expect most of you to write for us even once (although guest stories and letters to the editor are always welcome). But if a member of our staff reaches out for an interview or to ask your opinion about something, I would appreciate it if you answered them and communicated with us. Your feedback is essential.
So as you wade or paddle or swim through whatever work and stress you have this year, keep us in mind whenever you have an opinion or an idea that you’re excited about.
You can reach us at vantage.nu@gmail.com and refer to our letter to the editor guidelines at the bottom of page four.
