Newman’s annual Party on the Plaza fundraising event raised $201,735, which is the second most money it’s brought in since at least 2015, according to University advancement.

The event, which happened on Sept. 27 on Founder’s Plaza, drew alumni, donors and student volunteers, most dressed in 1920s garb to go along with a Roaring ’20s theme. Even President Kathleen Jagger dressed the part, donning a headband with a feather.

The event included food, a performance by the Newman Troubadours and a live auction that brought in $60,800.

Newman students were able to volunteer at the event, tickets to which cost $120 apiece. Students helped set up and tear down the party and also served dinner to the guests.

Party on the Plaza is Newman's largest fundraiser, and all proceeds go to the Newman Fund, which supports student scholarships and financial aid, said Abbi Spelts, Newman’s events coordinator.

“The donors who come get a chance to get on campus and physically see the spaces and see what their dollars are going towards,” she said.
