Act crazy online, win big prizes in two new contests

By Matthew Fowler, Co-Editor-In-Chief

Most college students no longer participate in trick-or-treating, but there are still a couple ways for Newman students to get some “treats” on campus this year.

Student Life is hosting two campus-wide contests, including a costume contest and a series of challenges related to the Dec. 5 Jonas Brothers concert at Intrust Bank Arena.

Three winners will be chosen in the costume contest, and prizes will include an iPad, an Apple Watch and AirPods.

The winner of the Jonas Brothers contest will be chosen by public vote and will receive two tickets to the concert.

Here is what you need to know to participate in each contest:

Costume Contest

Those who want to participate should choose a Newman University faculty or staff member, dress up as that person and record themselves impersonating the faculty or staff member.

Students then should post the video to Instagram and tag@nustudentaffairs

The deadline for the costume contest is Oct. 30, and the winners will be selected on Oct. 31.

Jonas Brothers Contest

There are seven challenges for students to complete to be entered to win the concert tickets. For each challenge, students should record themselves completing the challenge, post the video to Instagram or TikTok and tag @nustudentaffairs or nustudentlife, respectively.

Here are the challenges:

1. While standing outside Intrust Bank Arena, say, “I am ready to face the challenges to go see the Jonas Brothers” and introduce yourself.

2. Stand on a chair in the Mabee Dining Center between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and sing a Jonas Brothers song chorus.

3. While dressing up a Jonas Brother, try to make Sister Therese Wetta laugh

4. Visit Towne East Square mall and do the stomp and chant from the movie “Camp Rock.”

5. Wear your Jonas Brother outfit to one athletic event and cheer on the Jets.

6. Attend any two club events while dressed up.

7. Ask a professor to guess who you are while wearing the outfit.

The rules can also be found at @nustudentaffairs on Instagram. A hard copy of the rules can be picked up at the Student Life office.

The deadline has not been decided yet but will be sometime in November.
