Two clubs team up for glow-in-the-dark capture the flag

The Gaming Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes are partnering up to put on a glow-in-the-dark capture the flag game on campus that will be open to all students.

The game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

For those who don't know how capture the flag works, there are two teams, and each one has a flag at its home base. The goal is to capture the other team's flag and make it back to your base before the other team can tag you. If tagged, you are sent to a jail zone. The only way to get out of the jail zone is to be tagged out by a teammate.

The clubs decided they would start the game about the time that the sun is setting.

“We'll have glow sticks to decide who is on each team,” said Deqlan Mitchell, president of Gaming Club. “We'll have flags on either side of campus.”

Mitchell said that the Gaming Club was hoping to plan an active event that would be put on outdoors. Then, they learned that FCA was planning a capture-the-flag game. They reached out to see if FCA wanted to just partner up and put on an event together.

He said that he hopes students will take advantage of the cooler weather and get active outdoors.

“There’s rarely these kinds of outdoor events,” he said. “I think we’re hitting the perfect time of the year, temperature wise. It’s going to get dark early, but it’s not freezing cold yet, and it’s not super windy. So we’re right in the sweet spot of a good time to be outside and so something fun.”

Those interested in playing should sign up on Monday at the Student Life office.
