Newman’s men’s soccer team made it into post-season play this year, but their season ended on Saturday at the Great American Conference semifinals at Fort Hays State University. The No. 3 Jets met the second-seeded Rogers State Hillcats but failed to advance. The Jets finished the season with a record of 7-5-7.
Their final game on Saturday was decided by penalty kicks. The two teams ended the 90 minutes of regulation tied at 2-2, forcing the game into overtime. In the first overtime, only one shot was recorded in 10 minutes of play, which led to the second overtime. The game remained tied at the conclusion of two overtime periods, which forced the game into penalty kicks. The Jets lost 2(0)-2(2).
During the match, junior Gustavo Dias Juliani tallied his seventh assist of the year. He finished the season second on the team in assists. Junior Daichi Soto got his second goal of the season in the game, and senior Cameron Schroder scored his third goal of the season.
The Great American Conference also just released its All-GAC men’s soccer teams, postseason awards and academic honor roll for the 2025 season.
Nine Jets earned All-GAC honors. Senior Gabriel Dias Juliani, who earned GAC Player of the Week honors twice during the season and finished with seven goals, was on the first team. Junior Yohsuke Ono was also named to the first team. During the season, he scored two goals and made two assists and six shots over 149 minutes of play.
Junior Gustavo Dias Juliani made the second team. In the conference, he finished the season ninth in assists. Graduate Student Gregoire Henri also made the second team, he finished ninth in the conference in shots on goal and ninth in goals scored. Schroder received the Elite Scholar Student-Athlete award.
Ten Jets also earned spots on the Academic Honor Roll: sophomore Fabian Alvarez, Gabriel Dias Juliani, Gustavo Dias Juliani, sophomore Jonathan Garcia, senior Eduardo Dos Santos, junior Gael Gonzalez, junior Samuel Lopez, senior Brandon Garcia, senior Sergio Morales Diaz, and sophomore Carlo Silva.
