Despite starting the season with three wins in a row in early February, Newman’s softball team is now sitting at a 3-13 record for the season. The latest losses happened at home on Monday against Northwestern Oklahoma State (8-15).
Though the Jets defeated the Rangers at the teams’ first matchup, on Feb. 1 at the Branson Leadoff Classic in Branson, Missouri, they couldn’t fend off the team on Monday. The opponents took the first game 5-4 and the second 3-1.
Still, some Jets had strong performances: Senior Hannah Norby put up one double, two hits and an RBI, and senior Lani Dryden had three hits and one RBI. Junior Lauren McNaught had two hits and one RBI, and redshirt freshman MaKenna Majors pitched through 7 innings, throwing one strikeout.
The Jets will face the Rangers again on April 21 in Alva, Oklahoma.
The team, which is coached by Brittany Henning, will next play against Hesston College at home on Saturday. Games are set for noon and 2 p.m. on the Newman softball field.
