Intramurals gets set for its bracket challenge

By Kristian Gecaj

The Intramurals program, which offers students at Newman University the opportunity to participate in recreational sports, Will be back in action next month as it prepares for a 3 against three basketball tournament and bring back the “Bracket Challenge”

The basketball tournament, which draws inspiration from the NCAA Division one tournament nicknamed “March Madness” will take place over the course of three separate days, on March 5, 19 and 26.

The Bracket Challenge is a “March Madness” favourite thats returning to Intramurals next month.

Vince Couto, Senior, helps create and bring attention to the different events set up by Intramurals. He is looking forward to the events in March, he said.

“Our next big event is the 3 on 3 basketball tournament. We are also bringing back the “Bracket Challenge” which has been a Newman staple in the past.” He said.

“We’ve yet to discuss what the prizes are but it will definitely be worth signing up.” He said.

Couto said he is happy with the results of the intramural events this semester but said he noticed that the fall semester had a bigger turnout

“However, this could be for a variety of reasons such as many teams being in season. Basketball, Baseball, Softball and Wrestling are currently competing which makes it more difficult for them to take part.” He said. “The cold weather could also play a factor.”

Senior Emma Stewart, said she had a great time last month at the intramurals volleyball tournament.

“It was a fun way to spend some free time. Everyone is playing together and having fun together. I am looking forward to see what else they have planned,” Stewart said.
