List of events that will help finish up the year

Finals begin in less than two weeks and only a handful of events remain for students to get involved before we spring into summer.

Here is a little more about the remaining end-of-year events at Newman and how students can make the most of their last days of the school year.

Spring Choir Musical: Performances of the Spring Musical, “Suitors ‘N Scrubs: A Medical Soap Opera,” will be held tonight through Saturday beginning at 7:30 p.m. See Arts & Entertainment for more information.

AAPI Discussion Panel: Join Newman’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and a panel of Newman faculty of Asian ancestry to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. The event will begin at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Bishop Gerber Science Center room 104.

Yom HaShoah: This event is intended to remind participants of the Holocaust and to encourage thought over our responsibilities in the world. The event starts at 7 p.m. May 1 in the Dugan Gorges Conference Room.

Spring Fling: This annual event is designed to recognize Newman’s clubs and organizations and the people who make them possible. Included in the Spring Fling will be the presentation of awards for outstanding club of the year, outstanding organization of the year, outstanding club or organization adviser of the year, student employee of the year, and student leader of the year. Be on the lookout for more information about Spring Fling from Campus Activities Board and student activities. Dogs on Campus: Who does not love dogs? The K-9 Rescue Organization will bring some dogs onto campus for students to visit with from noon to 2 p.m. May 2 at DeMattias Hall.

Sloppy Joes: Newman’s Sloppy Joes improv group will hold an after-dark performance at 10 p.m. May 3 in Newman’s Jabara Theatre.

Breakfast and Bingo: Breakfast at night? Breakfast and Bingo will start at 7 p.m. on May 5 in the Mabee Dining Hall. Students will have the opportunity to compete in bingo for prizes while eating a breakfast-themed meal. Last semester, prizes included a PlayStation 5, a 65” 4k TV, yard games, a camera, a speaker, and gift cards.

Nurse Pinning Ceremony: Congratulate Newman’s nursing program graduates as they receive their nursing pins. The ceremony runs from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on May 9 at DeMattias Hall.

Baccalaureate Mass and President’s Reception: Graduates and their friends and family are invited to a celebratory mass and reception beginning at 6 p.m. on May 9 in St. John’s Chapel, which is located inside Sacred Heart Hall. Graduates can RSVP for themselves, and their friends and family at newmanu.wufoo.com/forms/baccalaureate-mass-rsvp-form.

Commencement: Celebrate the graduating class of 2024 at their commencement held at Hartman Arena. Commencement takes place at 1 p.m. May 10. Anyone can attend. More information can be found at newmanu.edu/registrar/graduation?highlight=WyJjb21tZW5jZW1lbnQiXQ==.
