Wichita has some dang good coffee shops

By Leanne Vastbinder, Opinions and Online Editor

When I moved to Wichita from Orlando, I was initially disappointed at the lack of fun hang-out spots around the town. There didn’t seem to be many fun places unique to Wichita, until a couple of my friends started taking me to various independent coffee shops near campus. Coming from a big city, I wasn’t used to such unique coffee places that weren’t just chains like Starbucks. Having visited a bunch of coffee spots close to campus, here’s my top three picks to go to:

Leslie’s Coffee Co.

930 W. Douglas Suite A

This quaint little shop in downtown Wichita has all the cheery vibes anyone could ask for. It has white walls and a ton of windows, so it always puts me in a positive mood to start on homework.

I have tried their iced coffee and chai tea and both are amazing, not to mention, their lemonade is bomb.  Right now, they have special fall latte flavors like s’mores and clove & pear. Leslie’s also offers unique, yummy food like avocado toast and homemade shortbread.

If you are looking for a calm, simple place with great food and even better coffee drinks, check out Leslie’s. You will not be disappointed.

Ecclesia Coffee Shop

7130 W Maple St

This small former bar now coffee shop is about five minutes from Newman and has a very welcoming, cozy vibe inside. It has comfy booths, great music, and a sweet community atmosphere. I would recommend their hot, pour-over coffee as well as their organic, loose-leaf teas. They also have yummy sandwiches on their menu, if you get the rumblies. So, if you’re in the mood for free-Wifi, cozy seating, occasional live music nights, and fantastic coffee, go check out Ecclesia.

Sente Games & Refreshments

132 E Douglas Ave

This place not only has great coffee and teas, but a chance to play games with friends. Sente has over 200 board games in their shop, and allow all-day access to the games for $3 per person. They have lots of couches and large tables to make group game-time convienent and enjoyable. Sente has a comfy atmosphere and yummy coffee and pumpkin pie lattes. So, if you’re in the mood to grab a cup of joe, play some games with pals, and enjoy the start of fall, head over you Sente. You won’t regret it.
