Eshel-Mania: The Newman Jets app has a lot to offer

By Aaron Eshelman, Staff Writer

Eshel-Mania is a new weekly sports column brought to you by Staff Writer Aaron Eshelman.

The Newman athletic department recently rolled out the Newman Jets app on the App store and Google play.

And if you care about Newman athletics even a little, you should download it immediately.

The app will help Newman students, alumni, parents and fans stay up to date on their favorite Jet sports teams from anywhere. Features include access to each team’s roster and schedule. Maybe the biggest feature of the new app is live updates about all your favorite Jet teams.

In the app, you have the ability to follow each of Newmans 15 varsity sports teams or pick and choose which teams you want to follow.

You have the ability to get notifications at the start of each game, a mid game update and final score, so you can follow the Jets even while you can’t be on campus.

You can also get notifications when a game’s time or location have been moved. This has already helped me to check up on our basketball teams when I was out of town over Christmas break.

Another feature is that you can access live broadcasts of Newman athletic events from the app through the MIAA Network. And after the game is over, you can stay on the app and check the final stats for each of your favorite players.

The app also provides easy access to the JetCast, Newman’s new weekly sports podcast as well as links to purchase Jets apparel from the online store that launched on Dec. 21.

“We are looking to make it easier for people to connect with Newman athletics,” Associate Athletic Director for External Operations Zane Ehling said. “This app makes it much easier for fans and alumni to be engaged. And getting more people engaged with Newman Athletics is an area we are really trying to grow.”

About half of our new competition in the MIAA have similar apps for their fans to stay in touch with their teams. This app is just one more way Newman has looked to improve the experience for student athletes and fans since joining the conference in 2019.
