Here are the athletes who won this year’s Jetspy awards

Newman University crowned a new batch of Jetspy winners on Wednesday night during a formal event at Fugate Gymnasium that included dinner and recognition for a long list of student athletes. 

Awards were given out in categories such as Rookie of the Year, Game Changer, Play of the Year and Athlete of the Year. 

Different coaches and members of the athletic department staff presented the awards. Athletic Director Kenyon Spears presented the final and most prestigious awards of the night: Mr. and Ms. Jet, to twin siblings senior Colby Schreiner, a member of the wrestling team, and to his sister, senior Alex Schreiner, a member of the softball team.

It was a particularly good night for Newman bowling teams, whose two teams took home five individual and four team awards.

Here’s a full list of the award recipients:

Comeback Performance of the Year: wrestler Bryce Kegley, junior, who this year recorded four wins and placed fourth at the Jet Open. 

Turnaround Team:  women’s bowling

Game of the Year: women’s bowling winning the 2026 Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Bowling Championship Title, the first in program history

Breakthrough Athlete Of the Year:  sophomore Paige Crumley, women’s bowling

Special Ops: Father Ed Herzog

Community Outreach Team: women’s soccer

Wingman Award: senior soccer player Daichi Saito, who this year played in 19 games, started in four and finished the season with one assist, two goals and eight shots. 

Male/Female Rookie of the Year: freshman Daryus Alo, men’s bowling, and freshman Claire Jacobson, women’s bowling

Game Changer: junior Timothy Kiprotich, men’s cross country, who competed in six races during the season and was the school’s top finisher in every event. He also set Newman records with a 24:58 8K and 31:07 10K.

Play/Performer Of the Year: junior women’s basketball player Alexis Martin, who on Feb. 7 scored 39 points against Pittsburg State University, tying the school’s single-game scoring record

Supporting Role: David Akao, strength and conditioning coach

Top Gun Male/Female: senior Braxton Muldoon, men’s golf, and senior Monica Redondo, women’s basketball

Maverick Award Male/Female: senior Braxton Muldoon, men’s golf, and junior Brooklyn Lane, volleyball

Best of the Best Male/Female teams:  men’s bowling; women’s bowling

Scholar Team of the Year:  men’s tennis, whose members averaged a 3.8 GPA

Female/Male Athlete of the Year: freshman Claire Jacobson, women’s bowling, and graduate student Noah Akiona, men’s bowling. Both bowlers earned NCBCA All-American status this year. Akiona was named a second-team All American, and Jacboson was named to the NCBCA All-Rookie team and also was awarded Rookie of the Year and Honorable Mention All-American

Mr. Jet/ Ms. Jet: senior Colby Schreiner, wrestling, and senior Alex Schreiner, softball
